What are the two types of concrete mixers?

Jul 02, 2023

The two main types of concrete mixers commonly used in construction are:

1.Drum Mixers: Drum mixers, also known as transit mixers or tilting drum mixers, are widely used in both small and large construction projects. They have a large, cylindrical drum that rotates on a horizontal axis. Inside the drum, there are blades or fins that mix the materials as the drum rotates.

Drum mixers can be further classified into two subtypes:

a. Tilting Drum Mixers: In tilting drum mixers, the drum can be tilted to one side, allowing the concrete to be discharged easily. These mixers are commonly used for smaller projects or when the concrete needs to be poured at multiple locations.

b. Non-Tilting Drum Mixers: Non-tilting drum mixers have a fixed drum position, and the concrete is discharged by opening a chute or trap door at the bottom of the drum. These mixers are often used for larger projects or when a continuous supply of concrete is required.

2.Twin-Shaft Mixers: Twin-shaft mixers consist of two horizontally mounted shafts with multiple mixing blades rotating in opposite directions. These mixers are known for their high mixing efficiency and the ability to handle a wide range of concrete types, including high-strength and specialty mixes.

Twin-shaft mixers are particularly suitable for large-scale construction projects that require high volumes of concrete. They are capable of producing a consistent and uniform mixture in a relatively short time.

These mixers are equipped with advanced control systems that allow for precise adjustment of mixing speed, mixing time, and other parameters, resulting in optimal concrete quality and performance.

Both drum mixers and twin-shaft mixers have their advantages and are selected based on the specific project requirements, scale, and desired concrete properties. The choice between the two types depends on factors such as the volume of concrete needed, mixing speed, ease of operation, and the desired consistency and quality control of the concrete mixture.
